Mime Troupe Bust in San Francisco

[An audio clip from the film Les Diggers de San Francisco]

This is set up as a streaming Real Player video file. There are two versions:

Low resolution (56k)
High resolution (DSL)

This clip has Ron Davis, the founder of the San Francisco Mime Troupe, discussing his arrest in August, 1965, in Lafayette Park in San Francisco. The Troupe had been banned from the City parks by the Recreation and Park Commission because they considered their work to be obscene. Davis, director of the Troupe at the time, stepped into the lead role for the bust. Subsequent activities to raise support and awareness for the Troupe were instrumental in the development of the Haight-Ashbury scene. At the end of the clip, Peter Berg talks about the concept of "guerrilla theatre" a term coined by Berg and first used by Davis in an early article.
